This novel is a perfect balance of heartfelt romance & passionate eroticism, with a little supernatural sci-fi twist to boot.Basically, the plot follows the tale of Lucia, a common winter's daughter, who gets caught up in a royal plot when her beloved, innocent father is accused of treason. To save him she must win the trust of the Duke's son, Cesare, a man haunted by a dark secret (a curse has left him with a "beastly" side that threatens to overwhelm him). Both Lucia & Cesare must deal with their own issues of trust & intimacy, while trying to unravel the truth behind the plot to frame her father.
The characters are both compelling and brilliantly fleshed out. There is a genuine, undeniable, & passionate bond between them. The political intruige elements are also very well crafted.
But, let me also say that the erotic elements ain't no joke. The story takes place during the festival of Bacchanal, a kind of week long orgy a la Dionysus, so there is a lot of lovely, explicit (often public) sex. But, it is the passion between the Lucia & Cesare that really sizzles. These two characters are able to both fulfill each others' raunchiest fantasies and also heal each other's deepest heartache. Isn't that what the best sex is really all about?
The best piece of erotica or romance I have read in years.

I liked this story much more than The Lady Submits because there was more character development. The erotic scenes were very HOT and makes you want to be a part of Bacchanal. Lucia and Cesare are the forbidden love that actually comes true. I love the fact that Lucia was the only person in the world who could tame Cesare and keep the Wolfenvask at bay. The deception in this story runs deep and from some unexpected players. Loved this story and I really hope that she writes more about Lucia and Cesare.
Loved this book!!! What a creative, exciting new world Chloe Cox has created! Two complex characters, destined for each other with twists and turns along the way, all of it fraught with sexual tension. I read "The Lady Submits" first and loved that too. I am a big Chloe Cox fan. I loved all of Club Volare and am looking forward to other books in this series---please say there will be more----Love to Cesare and Lucia.
This is a terrific romance, great sex, excellent character development, and strong story line. I loved the "beauty and the beast" insinuation. A DESCRIPTIVE, EROTIC, FUN STORY,VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I loved Lucia and Cesare right away. They have wonderful chemistry, erotc sex, mystery to solve and festival to enjoy. His struggle to contain his wolf is abated by his "mate", Lucia. She grounds him, and has loved him from afar. Now she gets up close and takes the chance. Their connection is great. This is Cox's first full length novel, and it is well written and interesting all the way through. ENJOY !!
I've read some of Chloe Cox's other works but this book is by far my favorite of her work. While I enjoyed her othere books they just didn't capture me on an emotional level. I never really bonded with any of the characters and they're all current day BDSM books. The Wolf's Captive had everything I was looking for with an "old world" feel to it and a fantastic paranormal aspect that I greatly enjoyed. Oh and most importantly it had some steamy love scenes. If you're looking for a well written erotic book that has some paranormal and that old world feel then I would strongly recommend this book for you.
Chloe please write more Bacchanal books!
Im a new Chloe Cox fan and have been absolutely floored by the material she puts out. Even though I find myself getting annoyed with some of her character's actions or thoughts, I can recognize that they are totally human and that I could make the same mistakes in my own life. Her insight into human nature and what it takes to love is uncanny and her characters are heartwarming with enough kink and steam to keep them from getting boring.
The Wolf's Captive is a historical romance about Lucia, a wine maker's daughter, who is fighting for her fathers life when he gets accused for treason. She needs to save him and herself and the only way she can do so is to get close to the Wolf, the duke's son, submit to him and win his trust. But it's his heart she finds herself wanting even more and as the story progresses its fun to read how they both try to deny their hearts and keep everything physical.
I really liked this story but its definitely not for the weak of heart. There were scenes that I thought would set my on fire they were so steamy. So just be aware of that. )

Is it perfect? No, but it is close to it.
A few typos, and I do mean very few.
It seems like so many stories hinge on ONE thing that needs to be said to straighten everything out, fix it all. Something any reasonable person would have said right away or if not, then would quickly ended up screaming it when things started getting out of control. Other authors offer these thin, weak and quite honestly irritating excuses why that ONE thing never gets said.
Ms Cox doesn't do that. Don't get me wrong, I was almost yelling at my for that ONE thing to be said... but the reasons given as to why it wasn't being said were solid. It was brilliant!
Okay, on to the fun stuff...
I loved it, it was seriously *coughs* stimulating. Poor Lucia. There is no solidarity left between women, I wanted to kick her out of the story just so I could take her place!
The female lead (Lucia) is neither weak nor stupid. Love it.
The male lead (Cesare) is strong, dark, damaged, and understandably brutish... oh yeah, and hot. Very, very hot.
